Explore English, one idea at a time

Choose a topic, read a short explanation and try a question. These starting points are free to use independently.

Short lessons, practical examples

Each note focuses on one distinction you can use in your own sentences.

GRAMMAR / TENSES

Present simple or present continuous?

Use the present simple for a habit or regular fact. Use the present continuous for something happening now or around now.

Routine: I study English every evening.
Now: I am studying English at the moment.

Look for the time clue before choosing the verb form.

VOCABULARY / USAGE

Borrow or lend?

Borrow means to receive something temporarily. Lend means to give it temporarily.

May I borrow your notebook?
Can you lend me your notebook?

The same exchange looks different from each person’s point of view.

WRITING / CLARITY

Make the main idea easy to find

Begin a paragraph with one clear idea. Then add an example or explanation that supports it.

Idea: Regular practice helps me remember new words.
Support: I use five new words in sentences each day.
PRACTISE / CHECK YOURSELF

Choose the correct form

“She ___ English every evening.” Which fits a regular routine: studies or is studying?

Show answer and reason

Studies. “Every evening” describes a repeated routine, so we use the present simple.

Learning tactic

Keep a “why” notebook

When you correct a sentence, write the reason beside it. A short note such as “finished time → simple past” helps you recognise the same choice later.
